the pioneer woman's tiramisu martini

This tiramisu martini is what happens when your favorite dessert meets your favorite cocktail. It starts like a classic espresso martini with vodka, coffee liqueur, espresso, and a touch of sweetness from simple syrup. But a splash of crème de cacao and creamy mascarpone-marsala wine topping give the drink that unmistakable tiramisu flavor. It looks gorgeous with its layered effect, and tastes like a fancy dessert in a glass. Serve it with ladyfinger cookies or chocolate wafers for the perfect little sweet bite between sips.

Jazz up your next happy hour at home with these other fun cocktail and mocktail recipes!

What is a tiramisu martini?

A tiramisu martini is a creamy dessert cocktail inspired by the classic Italian dessert. Made with vodka, coffee liqueur, Irish cream, and chocolate, it’s rich, smooth, and full of espresso flavor. It's like sipping tiramisu in a glass, perfect for holidays or after-dinner drinks.

Do you need an espresso machine to make a tiramisu martini?

Nope! The beauty of this cocktail is that it tastes delicious whether you use a freshly pulled espresso shot, store-bought cold brew concentrate, or even strongly brewed coffee.

What is crème de cacao?

Crème de cacao is a chocolate-flavored liqueur. Despite the name, it doesn’t contain any cream: the “crème” refers to its high sugar content and smooth, velvety texture. It comes in both dark and white varieties. This tiramisu martini calls for the dark variety for color, but white also works if that's what is available.

Ingredients

For the Simple Syrup:

  • 1 cup

    sugar

For the Topping:

  • 2 Tbsp.

    mascarpone, at room temperature

  • 1/2 oz.

marsala wine or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 cup

    heavy whipping cream

  • 1 tsp.

    unsweetened cocoa powder

For the Martini:

  • 4 oz.

    vodka

  • 2 oz.

    coffee liqueur (such as Kahlúa)

  • 2 oz.

crème de cacao (preferably dark variety)

  • 2 oz.

    espresso or cold brew concentrate

  • Rolled wafer cookies (such as Pirouettes) or ladyfingers, for serving

Directions

    1. Step 1For the simple syrup: In a small saucepan, whisk together the sugar and 1 cup water over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved (the syrup should be clear, not cloudy), 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and transfer to a heatproof container with a lid. Let cool completely, about 1 hour at room temperature or 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
    2. Step 2For the topping: In a medium bowl, whisk together the mascarpone, marsala wine, and 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of the simple syrup until smooth. Add the heavy cream and beat until thickened, about 1 minute. (Do not make fully whipped cream.)
    3. Step 3For the martini: Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add the vodka, coffee liqueur, crème de cacao, espresso, and 1 ½ ounces (3 tablespoons) simple syrup. Shake very well, until slightly foamy on top.
    4. Step 4Pour into 2 chilled coupe or martini glasses and top with the mascarpone cream. Hold a sheet of paper just above one of the cocktails to cover half the surface of the cream. Then lightly sift the cocoa powder over the exposed half before lifting the paper away to reveal a sharp, half-dusted finish. Repeat with the second cocktail. Serve with cookies on the side. Reserve the remaining simple syrup for another use.
