I have been waiting for this cookbook for a long, long, long, long, long, long time. And it’s finally here.
It’s time to make some cookies!
It’s Decorating Cookies by Bridget Edwards. Bridget is my friend, and the cookie decorating maven behind Bake at 350. Bridget’s website is filled to the brim with fantastic cookie decorating tutorials…and her cookbook is no different!
First of all, I would like to state for the record that I love cookbooks with visual indexes in the front.
It’s just so nice to see the entirety of the cookbook’s offerings all at once.
Second, I would like to state for the record that I don’t think there’s a cookie decorating manual that’s better than this one.
Bridget lays out precisely what you’ll need in order to tackle any cookie decorating project…
From piping backs to scissors to toothpics to tweezers.
Not to mention all the sanding sugars, food colorings, and edible markers you might need.
Right at the start of the book, she launches into the most basic fundamentals of cookie decorating: How to get the icing to the perfect consistency, how to twist and tie the bags…
How to outline the cookies…
And flood them with the icing.
And how to use contrasting colors of icing to create different designs.
Oh! And how to create monogrammed letters to set right on top.
How adorable.
And there’s a great section of helpful hints to make your cookie decorating as seamless as possible.
And that’s just the beginning of the book.
The rest of the book is filled with two-page spreads of the most colorful, adorable cookies in the world.
Including step-by-step photos of how to finish each one.
Wedding dress cookies?
Beyond beautiful.
I’m especially in love with these.
And I love the subtle colors of these pumpkins.
And these darling cobwebs.
My thirteen-year-old has already marked these to make later this month.
And Santa! See you soon, old chap!

Because of how wonderful Bridget’s website is, I had high expectations for her cookbook. But it turned out even better than I’d imagined. Informative, helpful, easy-to-understand…and everything is presented in such a simple, straightforward way.
If you’re looking for a cookie decorating bible to take you into the holiday season, I highly recommend this one!
