If there’s one thing I’ve learned from feeding a big ol’ family (and plenty of friends who wander through the kitchen), it’s that bite-sized food always disappears first. There’s just something irresistible about little snacks you can grab in one hand. That’s exactly why I love this melon feta skewers recipe—the stacks are light, fresh, and as pretty as they are tasty.

The combination might sound a little fancy—juicy melon, salty feta, fragrant basil, and a drizzle of tangy balsamic glaze—but don’t let that fool you. These only take a few minutes to put together. I like to mix and match watermelon, cantaloupe, and sometimes honeydew for a pop of color that looks downright celebratory on a platter.

These little beauties are perfect for just about any occasion: summer cookouts, bridal showers, holiday parties, or Tuesday nights when you just want something fun to snack on. Pair them with these fun melon spritzers and you'll be party-ready!

How far in advance can you make melon feta skewers?

You can prepare melon feta skewers up to a day in advance by cubing the melon and feta and storing them separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator. For the best flavor and texture, assemble the skewers with basil just before serving, and drizzle the balsamic glaze at the last minute so everything stays fresh, vibrant, and perfectly crisp.

Ingredients

  • 1

    (8-ounce) block feta cheese

  • 24

(1-inch) cubes melon (such as watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, or a combination)

  • 24

    fresh basil leaves

  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling

Directions

    1. Step 1Cut the feta into 24 cubes that are a little smaller than the melon cubes.
    2. Step 2To assemble the bites, layer a cube of melon, a basil leaf, and a cube of feta. Secure the stack with a toothpick. Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make 24 bites.
    3. Step 3Arrange the assembled bites on a serving platter and drizzle with balsamic glaze just before serving.

Tip: These melon skewers are also delicious with fresh mozzarella. You can cut it into cubes, or use small balls of mozzarella like bocconcini or ciliegine.
